DENVER — A criminal investigation is underway centered on the man in charge of Colorado’s election.
FOX31 Denver first reported two weeks ago Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler is accused of using taxpayer money on a Republican party event. It’s illegal to do that.
Gessler says the event was an election law workshop and not a partisan event.
Denver District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough says a determination was made just over a week ago that a formal criminal investigation was warranted.
It’s a “fact-finding” investigation according to Kimbrough, so it’s unknown what charges could result. There is no time table for how long the investigation could last.
