DENVER -- Larimer Square’s newest restaurant is offering something downtown has been missing.

“Tom’s Urban 24 refers to the fact that I’m Tom, we’re urban, and 24 means we’re open 24/7,” said founder, Tom Ryan.

The restaurant boasts an extensive menu and is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late night.

“We take very familiar foods and bring kind of modern versions,” Ryan said.

On the menu you’ll find Tom’s take on Vietnamese pho, homemade donuts and pop tarts, and burritos smothered in chile. But this isn’t your average diner fare, and Tom Ryan isn’t your average restaurateur.

He’s the founder of Smashburger, and he also invented some dishes you may have heard of at two little places called Pizza Hut and McDonald’s.

“I did the Lovers line [at Pizza Hut] but probably the biggest thing I did there was Stuffed Crust pizza back in 1994,” Ryan said. “Then I moved to McDonald’s in the late 90s and did some things there you would know, too. Fruit and Yogurt parfaits, McFlurrys, but the McGriddle is the one you would recognize the most.”

Any time of day, Ryan believes Tom’s Urban 24 has the food to satisfy your cravings. If you’re not in the mood to sit and eat, you can stop by the side door where you can pick convenient food to go. So after a late night out on the town what would Ryan recommend? It’s called the Midnight Slopper.

“It’s actually one of our charbroiled butter burgers pressed in a bun, covered with cheese and green chile, topped with queso fresco, pico de gallo, cilantro, green onion and tomato and two fried eggs on top. So it is exactly what you need at 3:00 in the morning to make sure you get home safe and sound,” Ryan said.

Tom’s Urban 24 is at the corner of 15th and Larimer in Denver.
