Jennifer Broome takes us to the Hotchkiss Wineries as she explores Colorado.

Orchards, vineyards, farms and ranches make up the small town of Hotchkiss in western Colorado.  Located about halfway between Crested Butte and Grand Junction, Hotchkiss is in Delta County and part of the North Fork Valley.  It is also part of the West Elks AVA (American Viticultural Area).

Hanson Mesa Bed and Breakfast is a privately-owned B&B in Hotchkiss.  The house is over 100 years old and historically known as the Thomas House.  There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms.  There is also a small bungalow.  The owners Greg and Margeaux are delightful and will treat you like part of the family.  It’s $65 per person.  That includes breakfast.  Margeaux is an excellent cook and uses produce from the garden in every meal.  If you want to float, raft, kayak, canoe, or fish, Greg is extremely knowledgeable about the best spots on the Gunnison River and others.

Jack Rabbit Hill Vineyards produce organic and biodynamic wines.  Biodynamic farming is old school farming of focusing on sustainability and not bringing a lot of things from off the farm on to the farm.  It is also home Peak Spirits, which produces organic gin, vodka, Eaux de Vie, and grappa.

At Leroux Creek Inn and Vineyards, you can enjoy culinary adventures and wine experiences.  Yvon Gros is not only the wine maker, but also a chef.  He and his wife Joanna run the vineyards, inn, and spa.  There are five rooms in the inn.  Each room has either a queen or king bed.  You have a choice of mountain peaks, vineyards, or high desert mesa views.
