Runaway truck crashes into building at 81st Ave. and Federal Blvd. in Westminster, Colo. Sept. 27, 2012

WESTMINSTER, Colo. — It was nothing out of the ordinary. A man was at a car wash at 81st and Federal late Thursday afternoon.

Then the unthinkable happened. He left the truck unattended for just a minute, and it started rolling down a hill.

The runaway truck rolled all the way across Federal Blvd… it’s six lanes at that location. This happened at 5:30 p.m. in the middle of rush hour.

The truck made across Federal without crashing into any other vehicles. But it did crash into a business and caused some pretty significant damage.

The big green pickup slammed into Action Awards, a trophy supplier.

Bob Hose, Westminster Fire Marshal, says they called in their technical team to shore up the building before pulling the truck out of the hole it had created. The building inspector says the wall the truck went through wasn’t load-bearing, so that was good news.

More good news: There were two people inside the building when the truck crashed into it. They were not hurt. In fact, nobody was hurt.
