Fundraiser for brave 3-year-old paralyzed in crash set for Saturday
Save Saturday for Gavyn.
This Saturday, Eck’s Saloon, in Lakewood, is hosting a fundraiser for 3-year-old Gavyn Wilkens, who is paralyzed from the neck down, after a July auto accident.
“That was a rough day,” says Gavyn’s father, Bryan. “It was like we were hitting a brick wall,” says his mom, Aimee, who was also involved in the crash. They crashed into the back of an RTD bus.
Gavyn’s spinal cord injuries leave him unable to speak. He communicates by blinking his eyes or opening up his mouth. The family hopes to bring him home next month from Children’s Hospital in Aurora.
“He’s full of life and he’s surpassed all these challenges and he’s still here,” says mom. “He’s a fighter and he’s gonna keep fighting!”
The fundraiser starts at noon.
