Officials: Surveillance video shows teen speeding in stolen police vehicle
CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. — For the first time we’re seeing Colorado Department of Transportation surveillance video of who police say is 18-year-old Shelby Figueroa.
She allegedly stole a Clear Creek county jail transport vehicle this weekend. Authorities say she speeds down I-70 at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour in the video. It all started after she was pulled over for driving too slowly on the interstate.
“As soon as she pulled over and the officer stopped she backed into his car and then got out of her car and was very combative,” said Clear Creek County Sheriff Don Krueger.
Deputies arrested Figueroa and put her in the back of the police vehicle.
“She got out of the handcuffs crawled through there, got into the driver’s seat and took off,” Krueger said.
Deputies chased Figueroa for about 20 miles before she eventually hit a spike strip and spun out. Watch the video of the sheriff’s vehicle speeding along I-70 in the clip above.
She’s facing charges for driving under the influence, and this may not be her first offense. Records show she was found guilty last July in Adams County of driving under the influence and underage possession of alcohol.
As for this case…deputies are just glad no one else was injured or killed.
