SEATTLE — The Seahawks beat the Green Bay Packers 14-12 “in the most bizarre finish you’ll ever see,” according to one of the ESPN broadcasters who called the game.
It was a desperation “Hail Mary” pass from rookie quarterback Russell Wilson to Golden Tate in the end zone as time expired.
Tate pushed off a defender, and then got his arm on the ball that looked like it had been intercepted by Green Bay safety M.D. Jennings. One referee called it a touchdown; another called it a touch back, which appeared to be the right call.
The play was reviewed, and the touchdown stood, giving Seattle the controversial victory.
The social media universe lit up with criticism of the NFL for not putting an end to the labor dispute with the regular referees.
