FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. (CNN) – Felecia Phillips is significantly more calm now than she was on Wednesday morning.

That’s when Flagler County police say that she beat down a teenage boy who had been fighting with her son.

“I think he (the bully) needs to get over himself and stop bullying people for no apparent reason,” Phillips’ son Terec Smith said. “He’s old enough. He should have a job and a car – not walking around the streets picking on little people.”

Phillips said she started the fight because the teen had gotten another boy to beat up her son at school on Tuesday. She walked 15-year-old Terec to the bus stop on Wednesday morning to make sure he was safe.

That’s when she said she overheard the bullying teen talking about her son.

“I love kids,” Phillips said. “I don’t love a disrespectful child. And that’s what he (the bully) is. He called me out, so I smushed him in his face.”

Phillips’ tussle with the teen started off the bus. When he sought shelter aboard it, Phillips followed him. And a bus video camera showed the continuation of the mother’s beat down.

Several kids jumped in to break it up. Terec said he was one of them, but continued to say he “feels great” about his mom’s actions.

“I know a lot of people who wish they had a mom that had their back,” Terec said. “A lot of other parents would just ignore something like this.”

But because Phillips didn’t ignore it, she was arrested and charged with child abuse and trespassing on school property. She bonded out and argued against the charges – calling her actions discipline instead of child abuse.

“That’s what bullies need: a good old-fashioned whooping,” Phillps said. “We’re not able to do that because we end up in jail.”
