SWAT team called to Wheat Ridge duplex

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. – A SWAT team was called to a Wheat Ridge duplex Sunday morning after police received reports that gun shots were fired.

Wheat Ridge spokeswoman Lisa Stigall said police got a call around 3 a.m. that shots were fired at the duplex located at 7310 West 48th Avenue, near Wadsworth and I-70. Wheat Ridge Police arrived to find a party taking place with an unknown number of juveniles inside.

The resident is known to have weapons, so a SWAT team was called to the area as a precaution, according to officers.

Some of the girls who were inside the house told officers they showed up at the party after a homecoming dance last night.

The incident ended just after 10 a.m., and six men were taken into custody. Officers say no one was injured, and there is no confirmation as to who fired the shots.

Police said charges that could be issued include illegal discharge of a firearm and failure to vacate the premises.
