Nurse who cared for Aurora shooting victims drowns

The weekend of the Aurora theater shooting, Jenny Gallagher was working as a nurse at University Hospital in Aurora and took care of one of the victims.

“It certainly affected her,” said her husband, Dr. Greg Pinson.

“Seeing people senselessly injured and injured like that, it’s tough to see even for a very experienced nurse,” he said.

But Jenny was good at helping trauma victims and their families get through tragedy.

One month ago, Jenny’s family could not have imagined that they would soon feel a similar kind of pain.

In early August she, her husband, and their 5-year-old son went on vacation to a lake in Iowa.

Jenny had an accident and drowned.

“It’s unbelievable. It’s still hard for me to come to grips with,” said Pinson.

It was quite the turn of events. The nurse who had helped so many, and her husband, a trauma surgeon, were on the other side of tragedy.

“Going through this helps me better understand the depths of grief that people can have to face when something like this happens,” he said.
