The missing athletes, according to Ojong, left the athletes’ village at the Olympic Park in Stratford, east London, over the weekend. Swimmer Paul Ekane Edingue, women’s goalkeeper Drusille Ngako and five boxers — Thomas Essomba, Christian Donfack Adjoufack, Abdon Mewoli, Blaise Yepmou Mendouo and Serge Abomo — are among the missing Olympians.
Britain’s Home Office said it can’t comment on asylum applications. Scotland Yard said it had not received a report of any missing Cameroon athletes.
Before the opening ceremony, Sudan’s embassy confirmed that three athletes who had missed the cut had also gone missing. It was later reported that one applied for asylum and that both of the others were expected to do the same.
