UPDATE, 7:15 AM: One lane of traffic is now open on 8th Avenue between Pearl Street and Logan Street. All lanes on 8th should be open by 3 p.m. Water should be restored in the two office buildings before 9 a.m.

DENVER — Denver Water responded to a 12-inch water main break that will close a major route out of Denver until Thursday afternoon.

The break occurred at 8th Avenue and Pennsylvania Street at 1:30 a.m. Thursday. Crews have shut down all lanes of 8th Ave. between Pearl Street and Logan Street while repairs are being made. Two office buildings on 8th Avenue will be without water while those repairs are made, as well.

The work is expected to last through the morning rush hour and is expected to be completed by early Thursday afternoon. Detours are in place and drivers are being advised to take alternate routes.
