Accident closes I-70 near Bennett, kills one

UPDATE, 7:29 AM: All lanes of I-70 are now open following the clean up.

STRASBURG, Colo. — An accident that took place late Wednesday night killed one and closed westbound I-70 east of Bennett, according to authorities.

The Colorado State Patrol is reporting that the accident took place shorlty before 10:50 p.m. Wednesday, just outside of the town of Strasburg. Crews shut down I-70 at milemarker 310 and gave no timetable for when the highway would reopen.

The number of cars involved in the accident is unknown, as is the cause. But the CSP reported there has been one fatality.

Drivers are being redirected to Hwy 36 as of 5:30 a.m. Continue to refresh this post for updates on when the closure will be lifted.
