Jeffco man accused of killing 90-year-old father

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — A man who ran out of his home bleeding and into the waiting handcuffs of Jefferson County police was arrested on the suspicion that he killed his 90-year-old father.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies were trying to track down Kenneth James Elmgreen, 53, at noon on July 27 in the 3800 block of Ridge Road. There was a warrant out for his arrest.

When police arrived, Elmgreen exited a house with lacerations on his arms and legs and told authorities that his father, 90-year-old Kenneth “Bud” Elmgreen, was dead inside.

Police checked the residence and found the body of the elderly man. The Kenneth James Elmgreen was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated over the weekend. He was arrested on the charge of first degree murder Monday, and is being held without bail.
