LITTLETON, Colo. — 24-year old Jonathan Blunk heard the gunfire and pushed his girlfriend under the row of seats in front of them a week ago, when a gunman opened fire at the Century 16 movies. Jansen Young didn’t get hit but Jon did…he died saving her life.

Blunk is still married to Chantel Blunk but the couple separated last year, she lives with their two kids in Reno, Nevada.

Friday, Jon’s friends came to a tiny chapel on Dakota Ridge to say good bye to the Navy Veteran who was about to re-enlist to become a Navy Seal.

“He was a real mans man,” said estranged wife, Chantel. “He always wanted to be a hero and that is the way he will be remembered, saving the life of another.” Chantel flew to Colorado to take him back home.

The Patriot Guard veterans group provided a motorcycle escort for Blunk’s body as it was taken to DIA where it will be flown to Reno, where another color guard will take custody until he is buried with full military honors next week.
