AURORA, Colo. — While one member of the Medley family is still clinging to life in University Hospital, doctors at the same hospital helped his wife deliver a new member to his family earlier Tuesday.

Caleb Medley is one of the 70 people who was shot at an Aurora movie theater on July 20. He remains in the ICU with a gunshot wound to his head. His wife, Katie Medley, was 40 weeks pregnant at the time of the shooting, and delivered a healthy baby boy, Hugo Jackson Medley, at 7:11 a.m. Tuesday morning.

It was a temporary glimpse of good news for a family that finds itself mired in difficult times.

The Medley’s don’t have health insurance. And though his condition has been upgraded to stable, Caleb is expected to remain in the hospital for 1-2 weeks.

Friends were happy to report that they have so far raised $77,736.88 to help pay for the Medley’s medical bills, but it has been estimated that the couple’s final hospital tab will total in the hundreds of thousands.

The fundraising effort has a stated goal of $500,000. You can contribute to the effort by clicking here.
