DURANGO, Colo. — Durango resident James Holmes has spent the last couple days explaining on Twitter that he isn’t the same James Holmes arrested in connection with the Aurora movie theater shooting.

The Durango Herald spoke to James Calvin Holmes III, whose similarities with the James E. Holmes sitting in the Arapahoe County Jail caused a flurry of tweets that accused him of being the shooter.

James C. Holmes tweeted that both men are from San Diego and live in Colorado, and James C. Holmes tweeted that he was in Aurora Monday night, days before the shootings. Holmes tweeted that they are also close in age. One particular distinction, that you can see in his Twitter profile picture: James C. Holmes is black, and James E. Holmes is white.

Despite the mix-up, James C. Holmes’ tweets show he is trying to take the accusations in stride.
