Viral Video: Head-on collision caught on tape
COLLINS, Miss. — A wrong-way driver traveling at speeds of 70 miles per hour caused a head-on collision in Mississippi Wednesday. A vehicle heading the right direction caught it all on camera.
Alan Fanning was driving the vehicle that was videotaping the wrong-way driver, and said he, his wife and his two children watched as the car swerved before heading onto the wrong side of the divided highway at an intersection. His wife can be heard telling a 911 dispatcher that the wrong-way driver was “going every bit of 70” miles per hour.
“He had both hands on the steering wheel, and his head was just dropped like he was unconscious,” Fanning said. “I was blowing the horn at him trying to get him to wake up.”
Fanning can be heard telling his children not to watch right before the inevitable happened — the car barreled into an oncoming vehicle. Fanning helped two female occupants out of the oncoming vehicle. Both were basically uninjured.
The man driving the wrong-way vehicle, 58-year-old Edward Fairley, suffered a broken shoulder. There was no report on whether or not Fairley fell asleep at the wheel.
