Slideshow: Fire engulfs Evergreen house
EVERGREEN, Colo. — A house fire erupted in Evergreen Thursday, but fortunately there were no injuries to report and authorities reported no wildland exposure.
The fire was reported at 3:30 a.m. and was contained by 4:30 a.m. The house at 26082 Fern Gulch Road was being reported as a total loss. The immediate homes adjacent to the structure on fire have been evacuated.
The fire caused smoke coming over the foothills that was visible for miles. The fire began in the garage before spreading to the rest of the house, and the cause of the blaze is not currently known.
Fire crews from several different counties responded to the blaze, which they called difficult to battle due to the terrain. Crews had to pump water a quarter mile before it could be used on scene.
The homeowners credited their recently-installed smoke alarms for alerting them to the blaze and saving their lives.
