BROOMFIELD, Colo. — Police responded to a call about a distraught resident at a home in Broomfield’s Aspen Creek subdivision Thursday morning.

“While en route to the home, Broomfield police officers contacted the man at the intersection of Aspen St. and Durango Ave,” police spokesman Steve Griebel says. ” The man produced a handgun and pointed it at officers.”

The officers responded by shooting the 21-year-old man. Paramedics took him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Adams/Broomfield Critical Incident Team is investigating the shooting. The officers involved are on administrative leave from the police department until the investigation is finished.
