Springer Fire containment at 23 percent

PARK COUNTY, Colo. — The Springer Fire burning 3.5 miles southwest of Lake George is now at 23 percent containment, according to a Tuesday briefing by Incident Commander Todd Richardson.

The fire has now burned 1,100 acres. Its growth potential has been listed as “extreme,” but no home losses were reported Tuesday night as nearly 300 firefighters battle the blaze. The fire’s cause is still under investigation.

The Park County and Teller County Sheriffs’ Offices have now issued mandatory evacuations for the following areas:

  • Wagon Tongue Subdivision
  • Echo Valley Subdivision
  • Circle C Ranch
  • Beaver Valley Estates
  • Beaver Valley Ranch,
  • All of County Rd 98
  • Park County Rd 403
  • Wilson Lakes
  • Forest Glen
  • Blue Mountain

Elevenmile Canyon also remains closed due to the blaze. Evacuees are being directed to Woodland Park High School where aid is being organized by the Red Cross. The fire began burning on Sunday.
