Sexual assault reported on side of Boulder highway
BOULDER, Colo. — A female motorist reported that she was sexually assaulted by a man on the side of a Boulder highway late Sunday night.
According to a press release from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, the woman, who is believed to be in her 40s, pulled over to the side of CO Highway 93 just south of Boulder’s city limits to check her GPS device after getting lost.
The woman reported that an SUV pulled up behind her at approximately 10 p.m. A man then appeared in her driver’s side window with a gun, forced her into his SUV, sexually assaulted her and took her keys to keep her stranded. Using a spare set of keys, she drove to a nearby Safeway to call 911 because her cellphone battery had died.
While the woman reported no physical injuries, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Department said it has no reason to believe this isn’t a legitimate case. Though her description of the man is vague, the suspect is believed to be white and his SUV was described as a vehicle similar to a Jeep Cherokee.
Detectives are urging anyone who may have seen a car and an SUV pulled over along the side of CO Highway 93 between 10 p.m. and midnight to call the Sheriff’s Office at 303-441-4917.
