Woman accused of cutting aunt’s throat, killing her

DENVER – A 53-year-old Denver woman is dead after an argument with her niece turned violent, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators say Nakie Nicole Pratt, 37, had been staying with her aunt, Mary Pratt, at Pratt’s apartment at 8871 East Florida Avenue.  

According to a witness, the suspect “became loud and belligerent” after consuming alcohol. An argument between the victim and suspect became physical when younger Pratt allegedly stabbed the victim in the neck.  

Mary Pratt was transported to Aurora South Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Nakie Pratt fled the scene and was apprehended a short time later outside the apartment complex. Pratt, who was covered in blood, was taken into custody without incident.
