American Idol finale: Phillip Phillips surprised he won competition

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — New American Idol Phillip Phillips is still surprised he won Season 11 the next morning after his big win.

He told Deborah Takahara Thursday morning during an appearance on Good Day Colorado that there were times during the competition he thought maybe he should have been voted off the show.

But in the end, a record number of voters made sure the young man from Georgia was crowned the winner.
