Jennifer Broome takes us to Fort Collins to check out the breweries there.

Fort Collins is sometimes called Colorado’s Napa Valley of Beer or the Beer Capital of Colorado.  It is the second largest producer of beer in the state.  According to the American Brewers Association, Fort Collins produces 70% of Colorado’s craft beer.   Fort Collins was a “dry” community until 1969 and now ranks #1 in the county in volume produced by breweries.  This week is Colorado Beer Week.  The Colorado Brewers Festival that showcases only Colorado breweries is June 23-24 in Fort Collins.

Do the Fort Collins Brewery Tours responsibly by either having a designated driver or use a shuttle service.  Two shuttle services offer rides between breweries for $10.  Green Ride offers it’s “Hops Brewery Shuttle” Thursday through Saturday noon to 8pm.  Super Shuttle offers its “Hops & Shops” Friday and Saturday 11am to 7pm.  The shuttles are hop on and off between breweries.  They also offer shuttle service to and from some of the hotels in Fort Collins.

The only brewery that does require a reservation for its tours is New Belgium.  The tours are very popular and fill up so book your tour well in advance.  The Liquid Center is open Tuesday through Saturday 10am-6pm.

You do not need a reservation to tour Fort Collins Brewery, Funkwerks, or Odell Brewing Company.

Fort Collins Brewery has the only restaurant in a brewery in Northern Colorado with Gravity 1020.  It’s a great starting place with lunch and beer tasting.  The tasting room is open Monday through Thursday 11am-6pm and Friday & Saturday 11am-7pm.  Guided brewery tours are offered every Saturday at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5pm.  Tours are free and last 15-20 minutes.  Gravity 1020 is open Tuesday-Thursday 11am-9pm, Friday & Saturday 11am-10pm, and Sunday 10am-3pm.

Funkwerks is a smaller brewery specializing in Belgium-style Saisons.  Their summer hours are: Monday-Thursday noon-8pm, Friday and Saturday noon-10pm, and Sunday noon-6pm.

Odell Brewing Company is hosting its Small Batch Festival 3-7pm on Saturday, May 26th.  Tap Room hours are Monday-Thursday 11am-6pm, Friday & Saturday 11am-7pm.  Brewery tours are offered Monday-Saturday at 1, 2, and 3pm.
