Doctors say if you are a woman in your 40’s, there are five major benefits you`ll get from exercise.
Dr. Mandi Beman of Aracea Women`s Care in Cherry Creek says the Top 5 reasons for a woman in her 40`s to exercise include protecting your heart, preventing bone loss, easing the symptoms of menopause, preserving your sex life and strengthening your mind.
“Exercise will help women live longer. It increases your good cholesterol and decreases your bad cholesterol, leading to a decrease in cardiovascular disease,” Dr. Beman says.
While cardiovascular exercise can keep your weight down, lifting weights will preserve your bone strength.
“Maintaining bone strength is important because as you reach menopause you start to lose bone so not only should you be taking calcium and vitamin D but also weight bearing exercises or resistance exercise at least 3 times a week.”
Dr. Beman recommends 30 minutes of exercise that gets your heart rate up per day with weight lifting added in three times a week for women in their 40's and up.
