DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. — The man accused of stealing a vehicle with two young children in the backseat had his bond increased from $500,000 to $1 million Monday during his first court appearance.

The judge says the suspect, Robert Orr, is dangerous.

He faces numerous charges from Friday’s incident:
— Aggravated Vehicle Theft
— two counts of 2nd Degree Kidnapping
— two counts of Child Abuse
— 1st Degree Criminal Trespass

The formal filing of charges is expected Thursday.

Orr is accused of stealing a vehicle with two children, ages one and three, in the backseat.

The kidnapping occurred at about 12:20 p.m. in the area of Anasazi Indian Way in Highlands Ranch.

“Preliminary investigation shows one of the parents stopped at a garage sale, leaving the children unattended in the vehicle while it was still running,” said Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Ron Hanavan. “At that point, the suspect got into the vehicle and drove away.”

Hanavan says deputies “flooded” the area and located the vehicle near Highlands Ranch Parkway and Broadway.

The children were found unharmed and reunited with their parents.

Orr was taken into custody in the neighborhood.

“Douglas County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind everyone to be cautious and not to leave children unattended in a vehicle,” Hanavan said.
