Occupy protesters stage a ‘sleep-in’ on 16th Street Mall
DENVER — Several Occupy Denver protestors spent Tuesday night camping out on the 16th Street Mall.
They took part in a “sleep-in” to protest the city council’s plan to ban camping within city limits.
“The specific target of this protest was to bring awareness to the community around the particular issue of this urban camping ban,” said Jason Ball, a member of the Occupy movement. “And to show our discontent with the particular means proposed in the bill and instead show that the better solution would be to focus on more community oriented solutions.”
Several hundred Occupy demonstrators marched through downtown Denver on Tuesday, blocking streets but caused little trouble for police.
Only one arrest was reported during the march.
More protests in the upcoming weeks are expected.
