Best Buy closing Aurora location
AURORA, Colo. – Best Buy will close its “big box” store at Arapahoe and Parker Road by May 12, the company announced Saturday.
Best Buy had previously revealed plans to shutter 50 locations in the United States by 2013 to cut costs.
The Aurora location is the first Colorado store targeted for closure.
“This was not an easy decision to make,” the retailer said in a statement. “We chose this store carefully, and are working to ensure the impact to our employees will be as minimal as possible, while serving all customers in a convenient and satisfying way. But we also recognize the impact this news has on the people who deserve respect for the contributions they have made to our business.”
Employees were notified of the decision Saturday morning.
The store was closed Saturday but will reopen Sunday for “final sales,” Best Buy said.
“We will be working to help these employees find other positions inside Best Buy. If they don’t find new positions, or if they choose not to work at a different location, a transition including severance packages will be available.”
23 other Denver-area Best Buy locations remain open for business.
