Snow blankets mountain resorts as wind blows through metro Denver, plains

DENVER – Gusty winds are expected along the Front Range and eastern plains Sunday in the wake of a storm system moved through Colorado yesterday and overnight.

The storm brought heavier snow to the mountains and a quick shot of rain and snow overnight to metro Denver. The snow didn’t stick around in the city, but many ski resorts reported several inches of snow Sunday morning.

Here’s what you can expect for the remainder of Sunday and Monday:

Metro Denver:

  • Scattered showers are possible this evening and overnight.
  • Strong winds will continue for the remainder of the day, with gusts up to 50 mph.
  • Daytime temperatures will reach the low to mid 50s.
  • Overnight temperatures will drop into the low 30s.
  • For Monday, expect a mix of sun and clouds. Afternoon temperatures will be in the upper 50s to low 60s.

 

Northeastern Colorado:

  • A High Wind Warning is in effect until 6 p.m. for northeastern Colorado, where northerly wind gusts up to 60 mph are expected.
  • Scattered showers are possible this evening and overnight.
  • Daytime temperatures will reach the low to mid 50s.
  • Overnight temperatures will drop into the low 30s.
  • For Monday, expect lighter winds and isolated showers. Afternoon temperatures will be in the upper 50s.

 

Foothills:

  • Winter weather alerts are in effect. Click here for the latest information.
  • Isolated snow showers are possible through tonight and overnight.
  • Strong winds will continue for the remainder of the day, with gusts up to 45 mph.
  • Daytime temperatures will be in the upper 30s and 40s.
  • Overnight temperatures will drop into the mid to upper 20s.
  • For Monday, expect a mix of sun and clouds. Afternoon temperatures will be in the mid 40s to low 50s.

 

Mountains:

  • Winter weather alerts are in effect. Click here for the latest information.
  • Snow showers will continue through tonight and overnight. Additional snow accumulation will be less than 6 inches.
  • Moderate to strong winds will continue for the remainder of the day, with gusts up to 25 to 30 mph.
  • Daytime temperatures will be in the 30s to mid 40s.
  • Overnight temperatures will drop into the teens and 20s.
