Jennifer Broome takes us to Glennwood Springs for some float fly fishing.

One of the best times of year to fish in Colorado is right before snow melt run-off.  If you like to fly fish, you should try a float fly fishing trip.  It’s fly fishing while on a skiff, or flat bottom row boat.  One of the best rivers to do that on right now is the Colorado River in the Glenwood Springs area.

If you go out on a float fly fishing excursion, you should go with a guide.  Sunrise Anglers was named 2011 Guide Service of the Year by Orvis.  They are based right here in Colorado.  They offer float fly fishing trips, along with other guided fishing trips, across the state.

You have another week or two to take advantage of the great fishing before run-off picks up.  Traditionally the best time of year to fish in Colorado is after the Fourth of July through September.

A great spot to spend the night in Glenwood Springs is the Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge.  You are right next to the hot springs and Spa of the Rockies.  Both are a great way to relax after a day of fishing the river.

For dinner try The Pullman or Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse.  For a little more casual fare, it’s burgers galore at Grind.
