DENVER – Despite earlier reports to the contrary, free agent wide receiver Eddie Royal has not yet signed a deal to play for the Washington Redskins.

According to The Washington Post, the two sides had a breakdown in talks and Royal is now courting potential offers from other teams.

Numerous sources reported Tuesday evening that Royal had agreed to a two-year, $12 million deal.

The former Virginia Tech standout and Denver Broncos fan favorite was drafted 42nd overall by current Redskins coach Mike Shanahan in 2008 when Shanahan was head coach in Denver.

In his rookie campaign, Royal had a career-high 91 catches for 980 yards and five touchdowns.

He is also a talented punt returner who averaged 16.2 yards per runback last season.
