DENVER — There is a rumor that the Denver Broncos might be willing to trade quarterback Tim Tebow to get one of the best QBs in the upcoming draft.

True or not, the rumor around the NFL is that the Broncos are the “mystery team” that is trying to move up in the draft to acquire Robert Griffin III, the flashy quarterback from Baylor University.

While there’s no denying Tebow is immensely popular in Denver and just about everywhere else, some football fans would love to see a trade happen to get Griffin in a Broncos uniform.

“They would be a much better ball club for the next five years if they got [Griffin],” one fan said Thursday night.

“I think it would be in their best interest. You know, Tim Tebow is a great guy but he’s not the future of the Broncos,” another fan said.

But the Broncos made the playoffs last season, thanks in part to a string of amazing late-game comebacks led by Tebow. Denver picks at number 25 in the draft, so the team would have to move up 23 spots to get Griffin.

“The Broncos have no intentions of moving up,” says insider Mike Klis of the Denver Post.

And if they did?

“The Broncos would have to give up not only that number 25 pick, but they would have to give up Von Miller,” Klis says. “They’d have to give up a second round pick. They’d have to give up a first round pick in 2013, a first round pick in 2014. They’d have to give up just about everything.”

They’re moves that don’t sit well with even the most adamant of Tebow-bashers. One fan says, “Von Miller is the centerpiece of your defense and why would you trade him away?”

It would clearly be an incredible price to pay. What would the reaction really be if the Broncos did trade Tim Tebow?

This is clearly in the ‘rumor’ stage.  There are a number of other teams with quarterback needs who would also like to move up in the draft to get Robert Griffin III. The St. Louis Rams currently have the second pick.

So why not try to move up and select number one to get Andrew Luck of Stanford? He’s thought to be the best quarterback in this year’s draft. The reason is that the Indianapolis Colts have the first pick, and they are in desperate need of a good quarterback as a result of the neck injury to Peyton Manning and his inability to play.
