GRAND COUNTY, Colo. — The bodies of a 62-year-old Denver man and his 9-year-old son were found inside a van in Grand County near the Colorado River Saturday.

Investigators say the deaths of William Ahrold and his son, Jackson Ahrold, appear to be a murder-suicide. The pair had not been seen since Dec. 9 and was reported as missing four days later.

According to the Grand County Sheriff’s Department, it appears the two bodies had been inside the van for several days by the time a BLM employee found the victims on Dec. 17.

The Sheriff’s Department says their investigation is being complicated because someone discovered the bodies beforehand and stole several of the Ahrold’s personal belongings, including the handgun owned by William Ahrold.
